What is on the November 5th ballot?

There is a very slim chance that anyone has missed that there is a very important Presidential election coming up. Most people have also already decided who they will vote for in that race.

But that is not all. There are another 31 partisan elections on ballots in Parker County in which party affiliation is indicated on the ballot. We are not utilizing our vetting committee for those races as it is likely a pretty straight forward choice of a Republican over a Democrat.

Please note that you can no longer vote “straight party ticket” – you must vote on every race all the way down the ballot.

In addition to all the partisan races such as President, Senator, Representative and so on in which party affiliation is noted on the ballot, there are 11 important non-partisan contested elections on ballots in Parker County for which you will not have any indication of party affiliation.

We hosted a candidate forum on October 10th, for all non-partisan contested races on the November 5th ballot including

  • Parker County Hospital District
  • Brock ISD
  • Garner ISD
  • Granbury ISD
  • Poolville ISD

You can watch a recording of the forum on our Facebook page.

There are also 2 propositions on ballots in Parker County.

  • Parker County JP3
  • Peaster ISD

We invited the candidates in the non-partisan local races to fill out a questionnaire. You can view their answers by clicking here for Brock ISD and here for the other districts or on the candidate profiles below. The questionnaire answers are best viewed on a computer. The candidate profiles below appear in the order that they are listed on the ballot. The candidates who are recommended by our vetting committee have the word RECOMMEND under their name in the candidate profiles and are indicated on the guide below. The vetting committee did not have suffient information to recommend a candidate in every race.

As always, we encourage you to do your own research. We are NOT telling you how to vote. We are simply providing these recommendations as a guide to help you make an informed decision if you don’t have the time to do the research yourself.

We will update this page with additional information provided by the candiates through election day.

I am a political outsider with nearly two decades of pertinent business ownership, leadership, and principled decision-making experience, giving me the tools to tackle these issues head on.  Sound familiar?

Our community is incredibly fortunate to have built a strong foundation of excellence in our schools, and Brock ISD has long been a shining example of what a dedicated community can achieve. However, over the past few years, we’ve lost some of that direction and it is critical to get back on track with not a day to waste. The growing pains are real, and they aren’t going anywhere!

I’m running for the Board of Trustees because I have a deep passion for serving our community and our children. I am very fortunate that I have the time and ability to truly dedicate myself to the issues facing our district. I believe that my experience in navigating the challenges of building successful businesses, managing large teams of individuals from wide backgrounds, and solving complex budget issues will provide a direct impact and make a real difference for our district. The decisions we make in the coming months and years, particularly around the budget, will affect our schools and our children for an entire generation of Eagles. We cannot afford to take this lightly, nor do we have the luxury of time to learn on the job. We must hit the ground running with real experience, dedication, and a passion to serve, and I truly believe I can provide those resources.

It’s also time to stop treating the Board of Trustees as a hobby. With zero room for personal agendas or motives, our students, teachers and parents require a board that approaches its responsibilities with the respect, professionalism, and dedication they deserve. Together, I believe we can tackle the challenges ahead and ensure that Brock ISD not only returns to its path of excellence but charges into the future stronger than ever in the emerging and rapidly changing educational space.

I look forward to serving this community and working hard to create a bright future for all of our students, security for our teachers, and confidence for our parents so we can keep Brock strong!

If anyone has any questions or would like to talk more in depth, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Send me a direct message, give me a call (682.803.8068) or shoot me an email (gbwales@gmail.com) and I would love the opportunity to talk in more detail about not only my platform but, issues that concern you! For the past two years, I have intended to run again for the school board, and I have spent considerable time praying about it and searching my heart. My family and I have lived in Brock since 2014. My oldest son graduated from Brock High School in 2023 and now attends TCU. My daughter and two boys attend Brock High School this year, and my youngest is starting middle school. I served on the Brock ISD Board from 2018 to 2022.

I am a board-certified family physician with a private practice in Brock. I am also the President of the Global Health Project and Director of FLCCC International Fellowship Program. For the past 4 years, I have testified in Parliaments worldwide, worked with State and Federal Representatives on several health freedom issues, and given countless lectures on globalism, recent health concerns, and child advocacy.

I am aware of our challenges, concerns, and needs. While serving as a Board Member, I always strived to serve the community to the best of my abilities, understanding and knowing that parents and children needed a voice. I spent a lot of time not only looking at the root problems and helping find solutions but also being the voice of someone with different experiences and opinions, thus challenging us to strive for excellence.

I am running for the Board as a fiscal conservative who believes in working directly with our community to reach our common goals of small-town tradition, pride, and excellence. We must prioritize transparency and accountability in our budgeting process. By seeking out cost-effective solutions and eliminating wasteful spending, we can direct more resources to where they truly matter: in the classrooms, benefiting our students and teachers.

Excellence is not just a word. It is a standard we should set for ourselves and our children. Every child in our district deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. I am committed to supporting our educators with the resources they need and fostering an environment where high standards are not just encouraged but expected. Excellence in education is about setting high expectations and providing our students with the tools to meet and exceed them.

Community is at the heart of what we do. Our schools are not isolated institutions but the cornerstone of our neighborhoods. Strengthening our ties with parents, local businesses, and community leaders will enhance our educational environment. I envision a collaborative approach where the community plays an active role in shaping and supporting our schools. Together, we can create programs and initiatives that benefit our students and bring us all closer.

Our students are our future, and they deserve the very best we can offer. This means not only focusing on academic and athletic achievement but also supporting their emotional and social development. Comprehensive education must embrace a wide range of opportunities to prepare students for diverse futures. By supporting ag, music, arts, vocational training, trade skills, and military programs, we ensure that every student has access to the resources and pathways they need to succeed.

My commitment to these programs reflects a belief in the importance of preparing our students not just academically, but in all aspects of their lives. We must ensure that every child feels valued and supported. By fostering a positive and nurturing school culture, we can help our students thrive in and out of the classroom.

There is an adjustment period, and rules, regulations, and policies must be learned. With my previous experience, I can hit the ground running on day one. It is an honor to announce that I am running for the Brock ISD Board position again. I am looking forward to once again serving the Brock community.

Hello, my name is Tommy Hays,

In 2008, my job offered my wife Sheila and I the opportunity to move anywhere in the metroplex and we chose Brock ISD. We soon discovered what a great community Brock was and still is today. We are certainly grateful to still be a part of Brock and we do believe that Brock Nation is an amazing place to raise a family.

With the support and blessing of family and many friends, I am proud to announce that I am running for place #2 on the Brock ISD Board of Trustees. My decision is not taken lightly as I know the commitment that it takes to serve as a trustee. I have experience in serving two, three year terms at another school district and I understand the role and responsibilities of being a school board member.

If elected, I plan to use my previous experience to serve the district with a common sense practical approach to address problems directly and efficiently. I expect our district to be fiscally responsible while ensuring that our schools provide a safe and healthy learning environment. I look forward to supporting the students, teachers, staff, administrators, superintendent and tax payers of Brock ISD.

Sheila and I have been blessed with our time here and I want to ensure that with the growth and challenges presented, that your children and our grandchildren get to continue to experience the same opportunities as those before them. The students of Brock are blessed to have such wonderful support from you all and I would enjoy representing each and every individual and family in Brock.

Thank You

Quick Bio About Myself

I grew up just outside the small town of Blanket, TX. I grew up the son of a retired 23 yr Navy man. My mother was a stay at home mom who always did her best to make sure we had a cooked meal on the table at night. I didn’t always have name brand clothes or even new clothes to wear for school. But always had clear direction and love from my mom and dad. I thought everyone went to the Lions Club once a month and received commodities. I just didn’t know any different. My dad always challenged me to be better. Do better at school, home and on the field. He was hard on me and many nights I remember staying up and working on my spelling and math until late. He instilled that hard work and determination will always overcome. As young boy I would get Christmas Card Packages to sell to neighbors, friends and families. He would always have me do the talking. Taught me how to shake hands and look people in the eye when I was talking to them. He taught me respect for myself and others will take me a long way in life as I got older. Those times with my dad doing that and watching him negotiate deals is what has built me into what I am today. He always told me to surround myself with people who are successful and moving forward in life. I believe I have held true to that in many ways.

My family and I moved to Brock in 2020 from Trophy Club, TX. We wanted our children to attend a smaller school and enjoy a more relaxed life in the country. We could not be happier in our home in Sugartree. We live and breathe everything Brock Eagles.

My wife Shaina and I married in July of 2012. We have our two children that attend Brock ISD. Brooks my 9 yr old son that is in 4th Grade. Then my blonde haired blue eyed cheerleader Emerson who attends Kindergarten. My wife and I feel very fortunate to have our children attend Brock ISD. My wife is a RAD-Tech Supervisor at Surepoint ER. As I am a full time Realtor with Keller Williams Realty. I look forward to being a leader for the future for Brock ISD as It transcends into the future. It is my goal to continue to support and rally OUR Eagles every day to the best of my ability. Keeping a level head, a sharp eye and a caring ear for OUR Eagles is how I want to move forward. Our children are our greatest asset to the future. They need our best everyday. That’s what I want to provide for them and all of the Brock Eagle Nation.

Brock has always been home for me. Growing up here, my mom, dad, and grandfather were educators and coaches at Brock, and I learned the importance of community, dedication, and service. I had the privilege of being part of Brock’s first boys’ state championship team, playing alongside my brother and being coached by my dad. Those experiences shaped my commitment to giving back to the place that gave me so much.

After graduating from Hardin-Simmons University with a degree in Political Science, I earned my Juris Doctorate and began a diverse career spanning law, policy, and technology. I’ve mediated cases in Arizona’s Superior Court, worked on constitutional issues for the sovereign San Carlos Apache Nation, and contributed to research on education and tax policy as a fellow at the Goldwater Institute. I’ve also had the honor of working in the Texas House of Representatives, the U.S. Senate for Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and contributing to a UN resolution on the preservation of Indigenous languages through AI technology.

I’ve spent over 25 years in the tech industry and have built multiple companies as well as Artificial Intelligence products at Facebook, Netflix, and LinkedIn used by billions of people every day. I’ve also had the opportunity to work with the Bangladesh government about AI’s role in combating terrorism, collaborated with the Royal Spanish Academy on Spanish datasets used to train AI, and lectured at Georgia Tech’s master in computer science program on AI global policy and transparency.

My heart has always remained in Brock, and Missy and I are raising our four boys here. Recently, I led the committee for Brock’s most recent bond and long term planning, I love volunteering for our UIL academic meets (Debate students shout out!), career days, and coaching middle school tennis and Little Dribblers.

As I run for re-election to the Brock ISD School Board, I’m driven by the values of love, excellence, and service that this community has instilled in me. I believe in strong, transparent governance that supports both the academic and personal growth of every student. Education is changing, and I’m committed to ensuring Brock remains the best place in Texas for our children to learn, grow, and succeed.

Policy Statements:

  1. Upholding Constitutional Rights and Parental Authority
  • I believe we should uphold the constitutional rights of free speech and religious freedom in our schools. I believe parents have the fundamental right to direct their children’s education and healthcare, including full access to all records.
  1. Promoting Local Control and Fiscal Responsibility in Education
  • I support local control and fiscal responsibility in education. I advocate for transparent governance, efficient use of resources, and innovation within our means to make our schools the best in Texas.
  1. Protecting Traditional Values and Ensuring Safe Learning Environments
  • I am committed to protecting traditional values and ensuring safe and orderly learning environments, including maintaining fairness in sports and privacy in facilities based on biological sex.
  1. Enhancing School Safety through Second Amendment Rights
  • I believe in enhancing school safety by allowing licensed and trained faculty to carry firearms on school premises to protect our students and staff.
  1. Championing Parental Choice and Educational Freedom
  • I support parental choice and educational freedom. Regardless of funding models, I believe we must innovate and operate within resource constraints as a public school to provide the best education in Texas. Competition is beneficial and can elevate educational outcomes, but we must ensure that tax dollars are spent with accountability across the board.
  1. Prioritizing Classroom Funding and Reducing Administrative Overhead
  • I believe in maximizing the efficiency of our school operations by reducing administrative bureaucracy and directing more funding to classrooms and teachers. Our priority should be to invest in educators and students, ensuring that resources are used where they make the most impact—inside the classroom.

Here are policies I have proposed as a Brock ISD Trustee:

  1. Fund Balance and Budget Reconciliation Policy
  • Policy Statement: Maintain a minimum fund balance equivalent to 75 days of operating expenditures at all times, with a budget reconciliation within the first six weeks of the school year based on actual student enrollment and attendance data.
  • Reasons: This policy ensures responsible financial management, enabling the district to meet its obligations efficiently while responding to real-time needs based on actual student data.
  1. Equal Access to Agenda Submissions
  • Policy Statement: Ensure all board members have equal opportunity to submit items for meeting agendas without removal or deferral by any single individual, following clear deadlines and procedures.
  • Reasons: This promotes balanced representation and open discussion, ensuring that all board members can contribute equally to the governance process.
  1. Public Comment and Engagement Policy
  • Policy Statement: Allow public comments at all board meetings—both regular and special—on any topic, with transparent and accessible procedures for signing up to speak.
  • Reasons: This encourages active community participation and ensures that the public has a voice in decisions that affect the district, enhancing transparency and accountability.
  1. Defined Board Role in Employment Decisions
  • Policy Statement: The Board’s role will be limited to hiring, evaluating, and terminating the superintendent, while all other personnel decisions are delegated to the superintendent.
  • Reasons: This ensures clear roles and responsibilities within the district, promoting efficient management and avoiding ethical issues and unnecessary delays in decision-making.
  1. Vacant Board Position Appointment Process
  • Policy Statement: In the event of a board vacancy, the board will appoint the individual who received the highest number of votes in the most recent election but was not elected.
  • Reasons: This process respects voter intent and ensures that vacancies are filled in a manner consistent with recent election outcomes, providing continuity in representation.
  1. Nomination Process for County Appraisal District Board
  • Policy Statement: Establish an open, transparent nomination process for County Appraisal District Board candidates, with clear eligibility criteria and opportunities for public nominations.
  • Reasons: This ensures fairness and transparency in the nomination process, preventing closed systems and fostering equal opportunities for all qualified candidates.
  1. Board Meeting Agendas and Public Access
  • Policy Statement: Ensure meeting materials are publicly available and implement a consistent structure that includes public recognition segments to encourage transparency and community engagement.
  • Reasons: This policy enhances the transparency of board proceedings and fosters community trust by making information accessible and recognizing public contributions.
  1. Data Integrity in Decision-Making
  • Policy Statement: Adopt stringent standards for data collection and reporting to ensure decisions are based on accurate and reliable information, maintaining transparency throughout the decision-making process.
  • Reasons: Accurate data ensures informed and fair decision-making, promoting accountability and preventing policies based on incomplete or unreliable information.

My name is Chad Martin and I am running for Brock ISD Board of Trustees, place 7. My family and I have been residents of Brock ISD since 2016. My wife Jennifer is in her 25th year of teaching, her 8th year in Brock ISD as a special education teacher. We are the proud parents of two children. Our daughter Ali is a 2022 graduate of Brock High School and is currently in the nursing program at Oklahoma State University. Our son Hunter is a junior at Brock High School and plays football and baseball for the Eagles.

I graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1998, where I played collegiate baseball for 4 years. After graduation, I was a teacher and coach in Killeen ISD for 7 years before moving to the DFW area in 2005. I have been in material handling sales with Shoppa’s Material Handling for the past 19 years. I have also served as the president of the Brock Eagle Booster Club for the last two years.

I am running for the Brock ISD Board of Trustees because I believe in serving others and being involved in our local community. As a parent of a current student and the husband of a teacher in Brock ISD, I have a vested interest in the direction of our school district as it moves forward in ever-challenging times. Brock ISD is a successful and growing district with a history of academic, agricultural, athletic, and fine arts excellence. As with any growing district, Brock ISD is presented with new challenges every day. I believe it is important for the Board of Trustees to work together with the current administration to address these challenges while maintaining the values and traditions that have made Brock one of the most sought-after school districts in Texas for both families and educators. As a trustee, I understand my role as a member of the team and I accept the responsibility to develop relationships with fellow trustees, students, staff, and community members that will aid in strengthening The Spirit of Brock. It is the Brock culture that attracts people to our district and is critical to our future success. In Brock, we set high expectations, support each other, learn from our mistakes, and strive for excellence in all we do. I look forward to serving this board, this district, and this community with honor and integrity.

MESSAGE:

My name is Jaci (Jack-ee) Lopez and I am running for GISD School Board Trustee because the community at large sees a lack of strong leadership at the top: in the school board. The toxic and divisive culture in the school board is dividing and harming our community. Bullying and public humiliation is unacceptable and intolerable and is a symptom of an even bigger problem: being out of touch with the community. GISD can be a beacon among Texas school districts to show how the Board, the district, and the community work together. As school board trustees we need to rise above the current toxic culture of the board and work together for the true betterment of our posterity.  We must lead by example and build up leaders around us.

Children’s mental health and test scores are heart-breakingly low. Teachers are frustrated with disciplinary policies. Teachers are the most capable and more than qualified in knowing what needs to be done to educate well in their classrooms. They aren’t feeling seen or heard.  There are restrictive policies, both from the state and from the board, that is restricting educators and their ability to educate to their fullest potential. Let’s think outside of the box to see how to ensure children are retaining information and showing great test scores!

The title of TRUSTEE holds the root definition of the job in its name: TRUST. The public’s trust in our school board is low. Parents feel voiceless. We need to foster an open and partnering relationship with the community by embracing parents . Embrace freedom of speech and the right to redress grievances and expand the frequency of “town hall” style meetings. This is a cornerstone of our 1A rights! Our trustees should not be training other district’s trustees how to “harness community input” and restricting how the public can redress their grievances and state their praise!

Transparency: There’s a word we hear a lot. The confidence of our community right now is low in our current school board majority because of the lack of transparency. Every bond that has been brought forth has had different issues in it, and not often any cross-over issues. There is no law that holds the school board accountable to spend money from a bond on the issues they put forth. Couple this with an overall low trust in the board, and we can’t get any bonds passed. I’m not going to give a rubber stamp for all bonds. I’m saying if the need is there we need sensible bonds with sensible solutions to problems, and break up bonds so the people can vote for or against the individual issues they want. Before that, though, we need to rebuild trust with the community.

I am deeply concerned with the future of our community and state. Not just for my children and someday grandchildren, but for yours as well. I envision a future for all students residing in GISD where they reach heights of success we only currently dream about. The children we teach today are the truckers, the lawyers, the managers, the welders, the doctors, the legislators and educators of tomorrow. What is instilled in them today, such as knowledge of our rich American and Texas history, is essential for the preservation of all of our liberties and rights as citizens.  If we don’t know what our rights are, how will we know when they are gone? This is something I’m deeply passionate about.

As a duly elected school board trustee I will advocate for empowering parents, teachers, and students while also representing the community’s needs and values that are currently under-represented.

I am a homeschool mom, an escapee from California’s commie policies, and a taxpayer. I am a mom of 4 amazing children, and a wife to a long haul truck driver. I am an investor in GISD and a former business owner. I’ve been in management positions at nearly every job I’ve had for 16 years including District Manager and Office Manager. I’m the former parliamentarian for the Hood County Republican Executive Committee and current Precinct Chair and chairwoman of the Rules, By-Laws, and Resolutions Committee. I was a National Delegate for CD25 in Milwaukee and on the National Nominations Committee at this last RPT State Convention. I’ve been involved with month grocery distribution to families who could use help out of my home, church activities, and my whole family was baptised at Generations Church in Granbury the week before I left to the RNC in July. I’ve been a Christian for as long as I can remember into young childhood.

Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

My name is Ben Haecker & I’m asking for your vote as Poolville ISD Board of Trustee member, PLACE 6. I have lived in Poolville since 2010 and own and operate Haecker Construction Company in Poolville. I’ve been married to my wonderful wife Mandy for 12 years and I have 3 children 11, 9, & 2. Two attend Poolville ISD, 6th & 4th grade, and the youngest will start Pre-K when she can.

As a 46 year old resident with three children, every decision and vote I would make as a Board member will have a direct impact on my entire household. My taxes are not frozen and my children will be attending Poolville ISD schools for the next 14 years. I firmly believe that a Board member should have skin in the game and their decisions should affect them directly, not just the schools.

I believe it is our responsibility as parents to be involved with our children’s education as much as possible and help guide the district toward the common goal of success for every student at every level.

Poolville is facing an unregulated and unforeseen amount of growth that will certainly continue in spite of our desire to keep our community small and rural. I experienced that first hand in the small town I grew up in and see the same future for our community.

As a proud Marine Veteran and a retired Police Officer, I’ve seen firsthand what happens to kids that fall behind while growing up. I know that a competitive education and a plan for lifetime success starts at school age. I believe it is our responsibility as parents to ensure that both our kids and our neighbor’s kids all have a path for success and learn the skills to be self-reliant and not dependant on the government or anyone else for financial support.

In 2023, I was asked to chair a committee of citizens for the District to study the issue with our current facilities. Through that process,

I learned that the district is in dire need of expanding their campus capacities to meet both the current and future needs of the District.

Forward thinking and decisive planning are absolutely critical from here on and I believe I would bring a fresh perspective, experience, and leadership to the Board and District.
